19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) – Carmo. A Porto museum tram on the recently rebuilt line leading to the upper city. The extent of these new tracks can be seen in the photo. Three public routes are operated, but only run about every 30 minutes between 0900 and 1700, so these aren’t really a serious means of transport but are really just for visitors, who can also ride on a special tourist tram that runs once an hour. Car 191 comes from the excellent museum at Massarelos depot and is an original 1912 American-built Brill. Because of the steep gradients, only two-axle cars are allowed up here. Porto (PT) – Carmo. The remaining tram routes in Porto are concentrated in the old historic city centre and are mostly run for visiting tourists. In former times, this was a large network with up to 400 trams, so is now just a shadow, with only around ten trams fit for service.
