These "Series 2" vehicles were purchased in order to replace the trams in Copenhagen in the late 1960`s nd early 1970`s. Prior to that there was a "series 1" from DAB.
That is alone for Københavns Sporveje, which was transffered into the HT in 1974.
It was a political issue in the late 1960`s. 100 DUEWAGS were bought since 1960, but the major part of the rolling stock was pre-war. And the number of private cars was stedily growing.
@ JP, HKN : It was a major trend of closing tramway systems in the whole world after WW II. That trend was also visible in Poland. Olsztyn is an example of city where buses took an advantage over tramways and troleybuses finally repleacing them. Decreasing oil price, flexibility, maitenance costs were pros for bus transport as well as political issue too. First tramway line was estabilished in 1907 in Olsztyn. It was closed down after 1965.07.31 when tramways were on their last duty. Since then a lot of tramway restoring plans were made, but they have never been restored. Situation changed after joining the EU and getting funds required to restore tramways in Olsztyn. With luck it will be finished in autumn this year just before deadline set by the EU. Otherwise Olsztyn will be bankrupt.
@ HKN : I would like to thank for sharing your photos taken in thursday 1989.03.22 in Olsztyn. They have brought a lot of sentitments to me.
